    Description

Atonement is a forgotten attitude. It is the fundament for the reconciliation between human beings and between God and man. As such, it paves the way for a deeper rela-tionship – beyond the break which destroyed it. Atonement accrues from contrition and regret for what oneself did of what others caused to the victim, who is the receiver of atonement. Substitutional atonement is an act of mediation, calling for a sacrifice. Atonement is a deep treat of Edith Stein’s life. By free will she offers her being, her work, her life in order to obtain the higher value, salvation. She is ready to take each effort for the greater hope warranted by God himself. Atonement deepens the relation-ship; here the attitude of atonement shows how deep Stein’s relationship to God was: it comprises her whole being.
