Description
In reaction to professor Herman Paul's book De slag om het hart, I argue that religious communities such as the one I have been part of, have a particular ability to reveal the fundamental arbitrariness of the modern divide between the secular and the religious realm. Most crucially, I argued that Christians should not substitute religious desire for secular desire (Paul's thesis), but rather properly order their secular desire towards its transcendental telos, so that its fundamentally religious nature would be revealed. Precisely this is what a religious community may do when it performs its secular activities but orders them in the framework of a religious life.
