    Description

Positive shame is a basic feeling and meant to protect us. In pastoral care we are confronted with embarrassing stories of broken lives, stories which often remained hidden for decennia. Because of shame. This negative shame is an expression of a broken relationship to one’s own person, one’s own life, and one’s own acts. People are ashamed of their weaknesses, of their misfortunes and of their wrong decisions. Often they feel guilty though they are not.
Living Catholicism helps them to place these broken lives into another horizon: in the context of unconditional appraisal, of forgiving, reconciliation and redemption. This experience is mediated by catholic professionals as well as by all Christians. In order to reveal God’s mercy, they should train some basic attitudes towards these broken person.
