In a significant shift from traditional metrics, in December 2022 the European Research Council (ERC) has
introduced a narrative CV template to its grant application process. This new approach is set to change
how researchers present their career achievements and scientific contributions.
The narrative CV template encourages applicants to tell the story of their research journey, highlighting
the impact and innovation of their work rather than just listing publications and citations. This format
allows for a more holistic representation of a researcher’s contributions, including those to wider society.
