Description
Digital technologies offer us new and exciting ways of creating art. Think of videogames, CGI, AI art, digital images, and virtual reality, which can offer us immersive, interactive, and realistic experiences. Yet, things can also go horribly wrong. Technology can misinterpet human input, imperfectly render desired outcomes, or even unexpectedly fail due to cosmic interference. The result? Glitch art. (Or, you know, nothing at all, because your computer crashed, but we will focus on the art part). In this talk, we discuss (I) numerous techniques to creatively induce, manipulate, and control glitches (which you can try out yourself!); 2. different paradoxes related to creating art by intentionally leveraging unintentional failure; and c) various ways in which we can try to make sense of glitches in artworks.
