Description

Lecture by Prof. Iris van der Tuin (Utrecht University)

This talk has three parts: a theoretical, methodological, and didactic one. Its format is diverse: there will be lecturing from the stage, discussion in a horizontal setting, and some practical exploration of interdisciplinary methods and didactics. The goal of the talk is at least two-fold: by reflecting on the discourse surrounding interdisciplinarity we will deepen our understanding of what it involves to research, teach, and learn in an interdisciplinary key, and by being exposed to such involvement, we will be able to self-assess our competencies in the area of interdisciplinarity. Concrete elements of the talk are: a framework for developing, implementing, and evaluating interdisciplinary education; the so-called ‘Repko method’ for interdisciplinary research, Mieke Bal’s ‘travelling concepts’, and Joseph Dumit and Donna Haraway’s ‘implosion’ method; as well as some concrete didactical aspects of interdisciplinary teaching and learning.
