    Reading a text, e.g. Isaiah 53:3 in which the expression ‘Man of Sorrows’ can be found, is different from reading a painting, e.g. the suffering Christ as the Man of Sorrows by the famous late medieval artist Geertgen to Sint Jans. As there are techniques for reading a text, in this lecture I will present some tech-niques for reading a painting.
