Description
The objective of the Carbon Credit Trading in Agriculture Roundtable event was to analyze the current carbon credit trading systems in place in Alberta, highlighting the structure, strengths and weaknesses through discussion with primary producers, aggregators, policy developers, government representatives and others. The following questions were discussed: •What is the structure of the current carbon credit trading system available to farmers and/or ranchers in Alberta at the present time, and what is its effectiveness – how to measure this? •What are some comparable carbon offset systems seen globally – how do they compare to Alberta’s system, and what are their strengths and weaknesses? •How could Alberta’s program be improved – what are some of the potential areas of improvement, barriers to usage, or other? This event was in the format of a roundtable discussion with diverse stakeholders from throughout the value chain, all on equal footing and participating in an ongoing discussion.
