Description
The Ethics Institute of Utrecht University proposes a workshop titled ‘Wealth and Power: Maintaining Political Equality in a Capitalist Society’. The viability of political equality given unequal private property has never been adequately resolved by political philosophers. In the past generation, theories of democracy and of property have often avoided the subject. The proposed workshop places this core problem of our times at the center of scholarly analysis. Combining broad theoretical perspectives with detailed institutional design, it brings political theory and philosophy into dialogue with political science, economics, history and law. The aims of the workshop are twofold. First, to create an interdisciplinary research network of junior and senior scholars working on questions of wealth and power. Second, to discuss draft chapters for an edited volume that can serve as a central reference in a field that is coming to the fore in both academic and societal discussions.Speakers:
