Personal profile

Research interests

I am Ömer F. Gürlesin, a researcher with a focus on the nuanced intersections of religion, culture, and politics in the Western context. I obtained my Bachelor's degree in Philosophy and Theology from Marmara University, Istanbul, and furthered my studies with a Master's and Doctorate in Sociology and Psychology of Religion from Leiden University, Netherlands.

My academic journey has led me to explore Islamic perspectives on global challenges. My Master's research centered on the Islamic view of the environment, while my Doctoral work delved into the socio-cultural dynamics of Turkish Islam in the Netherlands. This research introduced a new religiosity scale, highlighting the diverse interpretations of Dutch-Turkish religiosity.

Currently, I'm engaged in postdoctoral research at Tilburg University, examining the use of religious vocabulary in climate change discourse in the Netherlands, spanning various media platforms.
