Research interests
My research interests broadly concern social justice and technology. Within this space, I am especially interested in the justificaton of knowledge.
Looking at e.g. (data)science, but also law & policy making, and judicial sentencing as knowledge practices helps to understand how law does and does not (yet) address questions that the use of 'AI' for example bring to the fore.
This in turn helps to understand when a tech-oriented response is useful, or when a progressive update of existing law is more appropriate. Inevitably, questions about 'law' as an instrument per se enter such thinking.
My dissertation analyzed legal rights to explanation this way. It revealed how the paradigms of Adminstrative Law and Health Law need need (at least) an update, and how tech-oriented explanation rules will be useless without this.
I came to academia with backgrounds in cabinet making, film making, and legal aid and like to take an interdisciplinary approach to my research.
