Personal profile

Research interests

Carol Xiaojuan Ou is a Professor of Digital Transformation & Information Management at Tilburg University. She is currently the Head of Management Department together with Aswin van Oijen. Carol's research interests now focus on digital transformation (DT), covering two streams of research. The first research stream investigates how commercial, healthcare, military, and governmental organizations are transformed by new technologies via DT strategy, leadership, organizational structural change, as well as steering and control. Her second research stream examines how electronic commerce is renovated by emerging technologies, including social media, mobile apps, online marketplaces, and omnichannel. She deploys case study, field survey, social network analysis, econometrics, and applied business analytics in her projects.   

Carol is serving as a Senior Editor for Information Systems Journal, Information & Management, as well as IT and People. She is a Certified IS Auditor, an Academic Advocate at IS Audit and Control Association. She chairs or serves as a committee member in various conferences on IS and IT.

Career

Before joining Tilburg University, Carol worked at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where she received many research grants, as well as awards on the excellence in teaching and research.
