Research interests

My PhD research project ‘What does peace mean to you?’ explores how the public defines and visualizes peace. Next to a literature review on academic peace discourse, I am conducting a cross-national survey on which factors impact people’s peace norms and values and whether social representations of peace differ across contexts. In addition, I use creative methods such as drawing to ask people what peace looks like. In this way, I hope to uncover peace's multifaceted and everyday meaning.

Other (research) interests are creative approaches to conflict resolution and mediation, emotions and 'peace' in political discourse, visual processing of political images, civic education, and public engagement around controversial topics.
