Personal profile

Research interests

I study Interaction & Multimodality in video-recorded Spontaneous Interactions using Conversation Analysis.

I am also specialized in collecting corpora of video-recorded spontaneous interactions. During my Ph.D. I collected spontaneous interactions in legal settings (client-counsel and courtroom). At KU Leuven I have video-recoded, during the ALiAS project, 31 interactions in different settings.

To this end I am always looking for new methods, inside a Conversational Analytic framework, to video-record naturally occurring interactions, in order to keep the ongoing interactions as spontaneous as possible.

In the past, I have applied Conversation Analysis to news interviews, legal settings, classroom interactions.

I am now considering applying Conversation Analysis to Computer Mediated Communication.

I am also interested in Second Language Acquisition and, in particular, in how to strengthen students' Interactional Competence by developing authentic material from video-recordings of naturally occurring interactions.

After a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics from the then Department of Linguistics, Roma Tre University, I was appointed a postdoc at the Department of Italian Studies on a Research Project funded by the Italian Ministery of Education on a database of web-based resources to teach Italian as a Second Language.

In the meantime, I was adjunct professor of English Language and Linguistics at the University of L'Aquila and the Univerisity Guglielmo Marconi (Rome, Italy), and of Pharmaceutical English at the University of Rome "Sapienza".

During my Ph.D. I have also worked as instructional designer for "Certificazione dell'Italiano", Roma Tre University, and through it, I worked with a team on the syllabus of the C1 L2 Italian course of the online Master "ICON - Italian Culture Online".

From 2013 till end of 2014 I worked at KU Leuven as principal investigator and instructional designer for the project ALiAS (Archivio di LIngua Spontanea).
