Personal profile
Research interests
I am currently working on deep learning applications for understanding the underlying genetic features causing Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a neurodegenerative neuromuscular disease. My research focuses on machine learning, deep neural networks and genetics.
Previously, I have developed interest in the domains of mathematical modeling, complex systems, system dynamics, agent-based simulation and network science during my undergraduate graduate studies in industrial engineering.
Career
In 2017, I obtained my BSc degree in Industrial Engineering from Boğaziçi University in Istanbul, Turkey. I spent a semester at McGill University as an exchange student in 2015 in Montréal, Canada.
During my masters, I worked as a TA and assisted several undergraduate and graduate courses as a member of Socio-Economic System Dynamics Research Lab. In the meantime, I steered my interest in applied research for machine learning and network science in collaboration with H3M, to fight money laundering at the intersection of graph theory and machine learning. I finished my MSc in 2020 with the thesis title "Network-Based Methods for Anti-Money Laundering".
