Research interests

Hans van Oers (1956) is in 2004 appointed as professor in Public Health at Tranzo, Tilburg University, where he is involved in the Academic Collaborative Centre Public Health Brabant, a collaboration of the three Community Health Services in the province Brabant, RIVM and Tilburg University. In this Academic Collaborative Centre research is done on the effectivity of public health policy and public health interventions.

 

Career

Hans van Oers (1956) studied Statistics and Epidemiology, and obtained his PhD on the usability of geographical information for local public health policy (1993 Erasmus University). He worked from 1986 till 1998 as an epidemiological researcher at the Community Health Service in Rotterdam. From 1998 on, he is working at the National Institute of Public Health and the Environment (RIVM): till 2012 as head of the Department of Public Health Status and Forecasts, from 2013 on as Chief Science Officer.

Since 2004 he is also appointed as professor in Public Health at Tranzo, Tilburg University, where he is involved in the Academic Collaborative Centre Public Health Brabant, a collaboration of the three Community Health Services in the province Brabant, RIVM and Tilburg University.

In 2009-2010, he was seconded to the World Health Organisation Headquarters, where he was involved in the development of the Global Health Observatory, an internetbased information-system to support public health policymakers worldwide.

The central theme in his work is to strengthen the bridge between policy, practice and research in the domain of public health.
