Janneke Oostrom is a professor of Work & Organizational Psychology and the head of the Social Psychology Department at the Tilburg School of Social and Behavioral Sciences.
After attaining her master’s degree in Work & Organizational Psychology at the Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) in 2005, she started her career as a test consultant at Van der Maesen & Koch HRM-advies. After 2 years, she returned to the EUR to obtain her PhD and to continue her career as an Assistant Professor. From 2012 to 2018, she was an Assistant Professor at VU Amsterdam, first at the Social and Organizational Psychology Department and later at the Department of Management & Organization. From 2019 to 2023, she was an Associate Professor at the Department of Management & Organization, where she was also the co-chair of the HRM and Organizational Behavior section and the program director of the MBA in International Business.
From 2016 to 2022, Janneke Oostrom represented the VU in the Dutch Committee on Tests and Testing (COTAN), which audits the quality of psychological tests that are available for use in the Netherlands. In 2015, she joined the board of the NOA foundation. The goal of this foundation is to improve the hiring chances of ethnic minorities in the Netherlands. Since 2022, she is also a member of AON's scientific advisory board on assessments.
Research interests
Janneke Oostrom's research focuses on the recruitment and selection of personnel. Within this field, she studies topics such as situational judgment testing, impression management, and diversity and inclusion.
Her research has been published in leading journals in the field, including Psychological Bulletin, Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, The Leadership Quarterly, Journal of Vocational Behavior, Journal of Research in Personality, and Journal of Experimental Social Psychology.
She is co-editor-in-chief for the International Journal of Selection and Assessment and on the editorial board of the Journal of Business and Psychology, Journal of Personnel Psychology, and Personnel Assessment and Decisions.
