Research interests

Koen Abts obtained a PhD degree on the relationship between social resentment and ethno-populism. This research was awarded the Frans Van Cauwelaert prize 2014. His research interests include modernization theory, resentment, anti-immigrant attitudes, welfare attitudes, political cynicism, voting behavior, populism and Euroscepticism. Recently, he has initiated a new project the transformation of the left-right divide: changing socio-economic attitudes and voting behavior. Besides, Koen is also affiliated to the Institute of Social and Political Opinion Research (ISPO KU Leuven) as research coordinator of the Belgian National Election Study (BNES) and the Belgian Ethnic Minorities Election Study (BEMES).
