Career

I teach Christian Spirituality and Ethics at Tilburg School of Catholic Theology & Franciscan Study Center. I hold a Ph.D. (2007) in Medieval History from Radboud University Nijmegen and a Ph.D. (2019) in Medieval Theology from KU Leuven. My English publications include Franciscan Virtue: Spiritual Growth and the Virtues in Franciscan Literature and Instruction of the Thirteenth Century (Brill 2012) and the edited volumes The Carthusians in the Low Countries: Studies in Monastic History and Heritage (Peeters 2014); Shaping Stability: The Normation and Formation of Religious Life in the Middle Ages (Brepols 2016); A Companion to Medieval Rules and Customaries (Brill 2020); Lesser Ethics: Morality as Goodness-in-Relationship (St. Bonaventure 2023); Moral Conversion in Scripture, Self, and Society (De Gruyter 2024). I am Chairman of the International Society for the Study of Medieval Theology and General Editor of Franciscan Studies and www.franciscanconnections.com.

Research interests

My research concerns the Franciscan intellectual tradition, the formation of moral communities, character building, broad prosperity, and Christian ethics and spirituality.

My current research projects concern Franciscan Morality; Character Building; and Transitus: A Theology of Completion.

I am research coordinator in Tilburg School of Catholic Theology's "Texts in Contexts" Department.
