My research interests lie in understanding the different ways in which entrepreneurs adapt to cultural and regulatory institutions to be perceived as “legitimate.” Establishing such a perception in the eyes of key stakeholders is critical for entrepreneurs to attract the resources needed for venturing. This is particularly true for refugee and other immigrant entrepreneurs, who often have limited legitimacy in the local context due to their foreignness. Thus, I am especially interested in understanding how immigrant entrepreneurs navigate, often innovatively, the challenges of establishing legitimacy in a foreign country. I primarily use qualitative research techniques in my research.
