Research interests

Mariangela Veikou’s research focus lies in governance and rhetoric of migration and asylum in Europe, meanings of citizenship, diversity, integration and the digital dynamics in society. She has expertise in narrative approach, ethnographic research and the visual incorporated in ethnographic work.


Mariangela Veikou’s work has a background in Social and Political Sciences and Anthropology. She completed her PhD at European University Institute department of Social Political Sciences (I) and learned anthropology at LSE department of Anthropology (UK). Before this, she studied for a MSc in European Studies, Law and Politics at Tilburg University (NL) and a BSc in Political Science and European Studies at Panteio University of Social and Political Sciences (GR). She held research and teaching posts at Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies, EUI (I), Institute of Migration and Ethnic Studies, UvA (NL), University of Leicester (UK),  Hellenic Foundation for European & Foreign Policy (GR) and Hellenic Observatory, LSE (UK), University of Twente (NL). She has served at the Appeals Authority of the Asylum Service as chair of independent Asylum Appeals Committees (GR Ministry of Interior), and occasionally acts as Expert Evaluator for Proposals of EU projects (Horizon 2020). This year 2019-2020, she has joined the Amsterdam School for Regional, Transnational and European Studies (ARTES) as a guest researcher and migration expert.
