Research interests

Prof.dr. Martijn Groenleer is Professor of Public Governance, Academic Director of the Tilburg Center for Regional Law and Governance (TiREG), and Program Director of the MSc in Public Governance.

In recent years, his research has focused on the analysis and design of regulation and governance at local and regional, as well as European and international levels. His research interests include the design & development, implementation & use, and monitoring & evaluation of new forms of collaboration among public, private and non-profit organizations in tackling against such complex problems as global climate change, transnational organized crime, and socio-economic inequality.

As part of his research on the development of the regulatory state, Martijn was a Fulbright-Schuman Research Fellow at Harvard University. In 2012, he received a prestigious NWO VENI grant to set up a study into coordination and cooperation in multi-level regulatory systems, among other things in the area of energy. In 2015, he was a Visiting Professor at the London School of Economics and Political Science, where he studied the regulation and governance of cybersecurity.

Career

During 2002 and 2003 Martijn worked as a policy adviser at the Task Force International Criminal Court of the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Until 2015 he was employed with the Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management, Delft University of Technology, first as Assistant Professor and then as Associate Professor of Public Policy and Management.

Teaching

In Tilburg, Martijn teaches in the bachelor and the master programmes and supervises several PhD students.
