Personal profile
Research interests
Maureen Sie is professor Philosophy of Moral Agency and director of the researh institute TiLPS at the department of Philosophy of the Tilburg School of Humanities since March 2017. Before that she was professor Philosophical Anthropology on behalf of the Humanists (Socrates Foundation) at Leiden University and associate professor of Meta-ethics and Moral Psychology at Rotterdam University. From 2009-2014 she led a small research-group funded by the Dutch Organization of Scientific Research (NWO) who examined the philosophical implications of behavioral, cognitive, neuroscientific findings on the plethora of influences on our decision-making and judgmental capacities that we are, allegedly, unaware of. She published on moral responsibility, free will and moral agency more generally and is currently working on moral hypocrisy, love as source of morality and a scientific concept of our conscience. In her inaugural lecture she examined what light her view on the role of emotions in our moral practices can shed on #metoo.
