My main research interests are within the field of healthy ageing. I was fascinated by the question: why do some elderly people maintain their cognitive capabilities and health relatively well as they age, while others deteriorate dramatically. My research was focused on the impact of stress and the release of cortisol on memory performance. I also investigated the role of other hormones, such as DHEA and testosterone, on cognition and social behaviour. More recently, I am involved in developing internet interventions to increase resilience and prevent mental health issues.
