PhD research title - Enabling limits: A subaltern theory of transforming boundary struggles for sustainable climate change adaptation

I obtained a joint doctoral degree (December 2024), under the EDOLAD (European Joint Doctorate in Law and Development) program, at Tilburg Law School, Tilburg University, Netherlands and the Faculty of Law, Oslo University, Norway. I explored the role of law in enabling subaltern or historically marginalized communities across intersectional relations of gender and other identities of power, to sustainably adapt to water scarcity and droughts in times of climate change. I employed a modified grounded theory methodology that centers subaltern perspective and praxis, for answering the research question. To this end, I relied upon qualitative and participatory research methods to do fieldwork in rural parts of eastern India (West Bengal, Odisha) from December 2021 to May 2022. I also directed a documentary film titled Water, Life and the Future of Climate Crisis based on my fieldwork in rural Odisha.
