Research interests

My current research interests focus on questions regarding religious truth, tolerance, religious diversity, a philosophical exploration of (Christian) wisdom, the future of the Catholic Church, and classic German philosophy (in particular Hegel and Jacobi). 

 

Career

From 2006 until my retirment in 2020 I worked as full professor of philosophy at Tilburg University (School of Catholic Theology). From 2009 till 2013 I served as vice-dean for research, and in 2013 I was interim dean of the TST. From 1991 till 2006 I was full professor of philosophy at the Catholic Theological University at Utrecht,  which merged with Tilburg University on July 1st 2006. From 1993 till 1996 and from 2003 till 2006 I was rector of the CTU. From 1997 till 2003 I was president of the Dutch Catholic School Council (a part-time position). From 1983 till 1991 I taught philosophy at the University of Theology and Pastoral Care at Heerlen, first as assistant professor and from 1989 as full professor.

Until my retirement I taught the course Systematic Philosophy in the BA-Theology; in the MA-Theology I taught the courses Christian/Catholic identityPhilosophical Reflections on Human DignityGod in Contemporary Philosophy, and Philosophical Hermeneutics. In the MA-Christianity and Society I taught the course Christian Theology: Fundamental Issues and Contemporary Questions.
