I'm working in the field of language acquisition and bilingualism, focusing on the early development of bilingualism, bilingual education and the acquisition of Turkish and Dutch by young Turkish children in the Netherlands.

Educational research: practitioners research, professional learning communities, support for beginning teachers.

Teaching

Learning and sociallization processes. Language learning by children and adults, first language learning, second language learning and bilingualism.

Interaction processes at home and in school, the use of academic language, the role of the teacher in learing academic language and the impact of academic language proficiency on school success of groups of students.

Research in the educational context, practitioners research, teacher professionalisation, research attitude of teachers and research culture in schools.
