Research interests

Roel Mehlkopf is a researcher at Tilburg University. He gives lectures in pension economics and he is a research affiliate at Netspar. His research focusses on pension scheme design, in particular optimal life-cycle investing and risk sharing in pension schemes.

Roel is also a senior strategy advisor at the De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB). Prior to joining DNB, Roel was a senior policy advisor at the Dutch Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment where he advised on the new legislation for defined-contribution pension schemes and the new solvency framework for Dutch pension funds (nFTK). Roel started his career at CPB, a public think tank on economic policy analysis in the Netherlands, as project leader of a value-based ALM analysis of Dutch pension reforms.

Roel graduated (cum laude) in financial econometrics in 2006. He obtained a Ph.D in Finance from Tilburg University in 2011 and was a visiting scholar at the University of Pennsylvania.
