Research interests

Roel Mehlkopf is a postdoctoral researcher at Tilburg University. He gives lectures in pension economics and he is a research affiliate at Netspar. His research focusses on pension scheme design, lifecycle investing and risk sharing.

Roel is also works at Cardano Risk Management as a pension fund advisor. Prior to joining Cardano, Roel was a senior economist at the De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) and a senior policy advisor at the Dutch Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment. In his role at the ministry, he advised state secretary Jetta Klijnsma on the new legislation for variable annuities in defined-contribution pension schemes (Wet Verbeterde Premieregeling) and the solvency framework for Dutch pension funds (nFTK). 

Roel graduated (cum laude) in financial econometrics in 2006. He obtained a Ph.D in Finance from Tilburg University in 2011 and was a visiting scholar at the University of Pennsylvania.
