Research interests

Roel Mehlkopf is a postdoctoral researcher at Tilburg University. He gives lectures in pension economics and he is a research affiliate at Netspar. His research focusses on pension scheme design, lifecycle investing and risk sharing.

Roel is also works at Cardano Risk Management as a pension fund advisor. 

Prior to joining Cardano, Roel was a senior economist at the De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) and a senior policy advisor at the Dutch Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment. He advised state secretary Jetta Klijnsma on the new legislation for variable annuities in defined-contribution pension schemes (Wet Verbeterde Premieregeling) and the new solvency framework for Dutch pension funds (nFTK). Roel started his career at CPB, a public think tank on economic policy analysis in the Netherlands, as project leader of a value-based ALM analysis of Dutch pension reforms.

Roel graduated (cum laude) in financial econometrics in 2006. He obtained a Ph.D in Finance from Tilburg University in 2011 and was a visiting scholar at the University of Pennsylvania.
