Personal profile

Research interests

As an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication and Cognition, I teach and conduct research on effective communication of risks and uncertainties across various societal domains, with the aim to help people make better-informed decisions.

Communicating health risks
I study how personalized information about health outcomes can best be presented to patients, for example through numbers, visualizations, and personalized narratives. I also research the role of non-verbal signals, such as auditory and visual cues, in conveying uncertainty and health risk. Additionally, my research focuses on medical misinformation and how healthcare professionals can effectively address these complex conversations during consultations.

Communicating environmental risks
Within climate communication, I focus on visualizing statistical uncertainty around weather forecasts and how warnings about extreme weather can be communicated most effectively to the general public.

Communicating technological risks
Furthermore, I study the perception and communication of risks related to new technologies, such as generative AI in healthcare.
