Personal profile

Research interests

Sander Vloebergs is a postdoctoral researcher at Tilburg School of Catholic Theology, affiliated with the Text in Context research group. His research investigates the reception and transformation of mystical language in modern and contemporary artistic practices, with particular attention to dance, and situates these developments within the academic canonization of mystical theology.

Before joining Tilburg University, he worked at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra and KADOC (KU Leuven), where he conducted artistic research on ecstasy. His FWO-funded research focused on liturgical dance, exploring twentieth-century dance history in relation to Catholic liturgy and contributing to the development of dance as a methodological approach within theological research.

He holds a joint PhD from KU Leuven and the University of Antwerp in medieval mysticism, with a focus on pain and embodiment. His book, Voicing Pain: Pain and Suffering in the Mystical Culture of Liège, will appear with Peeters (open access).
