Research interests

My main teaching and research focuses are canonisation, adaptation, picturebooks, ideology criticism, ethnic-cultural-racial diversity, gender, feminist criticism, postcolonial ciritism, queer criticism, and cognitive literary theory. 

I have co-guest-edited special issues of Children’s Literature Association Quarterly, DiGeSt, and Barnboken on cognitive approaches to and diversity in children’s literature. I have contributed chapters to the Routledge Companion to Children's Literature and Culture (2023) and to the Oxford Handbook of Young Adult Literature (2026). I am the author of Jeugdliteratuur door de lens van etnisch-culturele diversiteit (2020, with Anne Klomberg), Routledge Engagements with Children’s Literature (2025, with Lydia Kokkola), Zoeklichten bij de studie van jeugdliteratuur (2025, with a.o. Helma van Lierop-Debrauwer & Suzanne van der Beek) and Pippi Longstocking, Critically (forthcoming).
