Project Details
Description
Mansplaining, the phenomenon of men degradingly explaining basic knowledge to women, is widely recognized in popular culture but has yet received little academic attention. This PhD project takes mansplaining as a starting point from which to further investigate the many factors affecting miscommunication, particularly the role of the receiverâ??s interpretation. By synthesizing existing definitions of mansplaining and other forms of 'splaining', evaluating existing research on speech acts and communicative bias, this project aims to develop a sound methodology to research miscommunication, shedding new light on mansplaining's impact on communication dynamics.
