Description
The aim is to investigate the historical development of four major topics of German syntax in comparison to other Germanic languages, namely the clause structure and the nature V2-constructions, the relation between morphology and the pro-drop parameter, the relation between morphology and V-to-I raising and finally the rise of expletive auxiliaries and the relation to the rise of VP-topicalization structures.
