Project Details
Description
The Horizon Twinning Programme of the European Commission offers to fund the ENPOWER project, the collaboration of Tilburg University, Università degli Studi di Macerata, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KU Leuven) and SITES (Ireland) to build capacity of Univerzitet u Banjoj Luci, for addressing energy poverty issues. In 2022, 9.3% of the EU population were unable to keep their houses adequately warm and suffered from energy poverty.
In Bosnia and Herzegovina 74% of households are energy poor. At the same time the country needs to go through decarbonization of its economy.
In light of the European Green Deal (EGD) and 2050 climate neutrality targets, the EU is putting a major effort in energy transition boosting renewable energy and energy efficiency. Energy transition requires high investments, including in residential buildings, which, if not addressed, may leave some groups behind and exacerbate energy poverty.
ENPOWER project will focus on addressing the problem by means of increasing capacity within the country by building technical and social science knowledge and education at one the core universities of Bosnia and Herzegovina
