Description
Due to different cultural and religious values, providing care for people with a Turkish background when they are diagnosed with advanced cancer may be complicated. These people tend to travel to Turkey for often aggressive anti-cancer therapy. For various reasons, this routine is not in accordance with the Dutch standard for palliative care.
The overall ambition of this project is to improve palliative care for Dutch people of Turkish background with advanced cancer by gaining a better understanding of 1) the perspectives of these patients and their relatives when considering treatment in Turkey for their advanced cancer, 2) the perspectives of relevant Dutch and Turkish healthcare professionals, 3) the decision-making process regarding treatment in Turkey for patients with advanced cancer, and 4) to develop and animation/ movie and two guidance documents for patients with a Turkish background and healthcare professions respectively .
