Abstract
In this article I give an overview of Luke's view on rich and poor, as we can reconstruct it from both his works. Because Jesus' (and Luke's) message to the poor did not come out of the sky, in the first paragraph we pay some attention tot the Jewish background of this question. In the following section I outline the content of the Lukan good message for the poor. then I focus on what he has to say to the rich. Finally, after briefly showing how the Lukan program of sharing is presented in Acts, I discuss in the last paragraph a nice example of 'sharing together' from the Gospel of Luke (Luke 14, 1-4). Most scholars characterize Luke 14,1-6 too quickly as a conflict story about the Sabbath and thus too little attention is paid to what may be the crucial meaning of the healing of a person with dropsy (14,3) here. Such a person is a practical example of what is theoretically treated in the following parable (14,8-14). A person suffering from dropsy due to hunger is certainly one of the poor who should be invited to the festive meals (14,13). then it will become a reality that those who eat bread in the kingdom of God are blessed (14,15): the poor and the rich can eat together and enjoy together the festive meal that symbolizes and gives concrete form to this kingdom.
