Brahman, the Dao, and Evil: The problem of evil, non-personal ultimate realities and varieties of evil

Most discussion of the problem of evil focuses on the probability of theism (understood as the existence of an omnibenevolent, omnipotent God) and naturalism. This paper examines how the existence of evil bears on the probability of a non-personal ultimate reality such as Brahman or the Dao. It further argues that different kinds of evil provide evidential support for certain forms of theism, while offering no support for the existence of a non-personal ultimate reality. However, other forms of evil disconfirm theism and do not affect the probability of a non-personal ultimate reality.
