Abstract

Designing for children can be challenging as they often have difficulty expressing their wants and needs. The reason behind children's limited involvement in the design process is the perception that working with them is challenging and complex. Additionally, designers often hold the belief that there are few if any, suitable methods and toolkits for designing with children. This experiential tool aims to offer a fun, creative, and constructive way to design with and for children by empowering them to take a more active role in design. As a first topic, we made use of the context of designing for healthy eating habits. coCreate exists out of 3 parts: Show and Tell, Reflect, and Create. Throughout this paper, initial research on the probe has been done to see if it has the potential to facilitate co-design sessions between children age 9 to 12 and designers.
