Abstract

The three essays collected in this PhD thesis all investigate how the psychology of the CEO influences corporate scope decisions. The first essay is a comprehensive integrative review of how CEO cognitive biases affect strategic decision-making. The second essay uses these insights to investigate how humility and overconfidence influence the interpretation of acquisition performance feedback by the CEO. The last essay examines how CEO organizational identification influences another corporate scope decision: divestitures.
