Abstract

This chapter discusses the experience of CPB Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis, which has built a reputation for providing independent and solid policy analyses. CPB research frequently focuses on policy reform. Based on the Dutch experience several lessons are drawn, like a division of labour between those producing the facts and analyses and those who decide on policy. Second, it took CPB time to establish a reputation as a dependable source of economic forecasts and analyses. Finally, under situations of economic distress, the desire for evidence-based policy to solve issues effectively and efficiently may be strongest.
