Abstract
This article introduces the second and f inal part of the special issue ‘Leadership in times of digitalization, globalization, and flexibilization’. This part of the special issue brings together three articles that focus on ‘context’. The first article examines role of employees’ perceived fit with team members on the employee-leader relationship, focusing on inclusive leadership behaviors and employees’ perceived needs. The second article is a reflective article and discusses the interaction of technological developments and leaders’ perceptions, actions and decisions. The third article reports on a ‘future-oriented lab’, where various stakeholders around flex workers generate ideas and cocreate solutions together around how to shape leadership so that flex workers can achieve more sustainable careers. The fourth and concluding article is a critical reflection on leadership theory and research in general, from three fundamental pain points in leadership research: conceptualization, causality and context. This reflection both reviews the contributions of the ‘new clothes of the leader’ and provides
directions for future research.
