Abstract
This paper introduces the contributions to the special issue “Old age in the Wake of Simone de Beauvoir / La vieillesse après Simone de Beauvoir”. Fifty years after the publication of The Coming of Age, Beauvoir’s insights into the experience of older people and her critique of their marginalisation still ring true. Arguing for the continued relevance of Beauvoir’s work, the authors explore the following key themes: the reception of The Coming of Age, ageism, the experience of time, ageing and femininity, and the COVID-19 pandemic.
