Abstract
Inspired by the format of Current Opinion journals, we provide an overview of recent methodological trends and interventions aimed at supporting people with mental health conditions who experience financial difficulties. We selected insights from recent scientific literature as well as practice-oriented publications from knowledge institutes and expert centres. In practice, several promising interventions have been developed, but targeted (effect) research in the Netherlands is largely lacking. Because poverty often lies outside the sphere of influence of individual clients and care professionals, policymakers are working on an integrated approach and a more effective system of income support. Only in this way can the vicious cycle between financial stress and mental health problems be sustainably broken.
