Abstract
Unlike the tendencies in a meritocratic and 'techgnostic' society, a Franciscan reading of the prayer for bread reveals a different economy, in which people share their gifts as well as their needs. In this view, the bread can be understood as 'the money' of the Lord: it is a gift made by people for people in which life itself is passed on.
