    Abstract

Performative theology sets out to bring politics and theology into a dialogue that may change the dialogue partners and develops the necessary criteria for this. One of these criteria, as will be shown in the following, is the proven self-competence of the respective dialogue partners, based on a strong identity. Insecure identity leads to self-assurance by setting oneself apart from the (factual) other or (personal) other, e.g. through a constructed image of the enemy and an ideologically justified fundamentalism. A sound self-assurance, here understood as a cultural identity oriented towards basic values, enables a fear-free openness to dialogue that not only tolerates the other and his or her otherness, but even allows oneself to be enriched by it. The supporting value orientation requires competence of meaning. Theology plays a decisive role in gaining this.
