Abstract
A communication model is firstly developed for asking questions in pastoral care. It comprises three levels: the facts, the meaning people attach to them and the core of the conversation. The article then analyses the functions of different forms of questions and possible pitfalls. Then the move from the fact to the meaning level of pastoral communication is examined. The next section deals with the descent to the core of a conversation. A verbatim that touches on all three levels of the communication model rounds off the article.
