Volgens sommige statistieken neemt de vleesconsumptie in Nederland af. Andere statistieken geven aan dat er nog weinig reden is voor optimisme. Toch wanen sommige fervente vlees-eters zich blijkbaar reeds een bedreigde diersoort. Ze vrezen de opmars van de vegetariër, hoe klein en langzaam ook.
