Abstract
As Jean d’Aspremont extols the concept of love for international organizations, it’s notable that, unlike the African Union or the European Union, Asia lacks a region-wide international organization. Additionally, from an international perspective, Asia is often seen as under-participating in organizations such as the United Nations. This raises the question: what is the Asian perspective on Jean d’Aspremont’s discourse regarding love for international organizations? An examination of examples from both regional and international organizations reveals that Asian states’ approach to the notion of love for international organizations is marked by ‘mixed feelings’. The perspective of Asian states is characterised by a conflict between the preservation of state sovereignty and the effective functioning of international organizations themselves.
