Abstract
Climate change is often seen as a problem for which we can come up with practical solutions. But it also raises deeper questions, such as how we view people and the world, for whom or what we feel responsible, and with whom we feel connected. Can worldviews help us deal with climate change, and how exactly does that work?
This book discusses various rituals that people perform to give meaning in the context of climate changes. Especially rituals in which walking is central are discussed.
Rituals have always had an important function in societies. They help people deal with emotions, form communities, maintain relationships and deepen their traditions. This book is about the ritual space created in response to climate change. This highlights various ways in which people use rituals, texts and objects to give meaning to a world that is changing rapidly. Climate walks are relevant examples of this.
