Abstract
In this article, I propose to answer the following two questions: Are there significant differences between French and German children's novels dealing with socio-economic and health problems in sub-Saharan Africa? And if so, what might be the causes? I argue that there are formal differences, and that there is a difference in the discourse on humanitarian aid. I link these differences to the divergent editorial policies and literary traditions in these two countries.
